On January 29, 2026, Prof. Thomas Lunkenbein took students, colleagues, university management, guests from industry, friends, and family on an analytical journey to the living stones as part of his inaugural lecture. The lecture bridged the gap between stones and functional materials and introduced the audience to the necessity of operando electron microscopy in order to gain a deeper understanding of active and functional materials. The lecture concluded with an outlook on the future work in Bayreuth and in-depth discussions over a Franconian reception.
