On August 6, 2026, we celebrated our first anniversary as a chair with a group BBQ and looked back on a year of Operando-Analytics.

In June 2025, Prof. Dr. Thomas Lunkenbein started his position at the newly established Chair of Operando-Analytics for Electrochemical Energy Storage, the last of the 12 professorships at the Bavarian Center for Battery Technology. The chair is funded by the Bavarian High-Tech Agenda.

Even before Prof. Dr. Lunkenbein took up office, laboratory engineer Lena Oster and team assistant Bianca Jochum helped establish the chair; they were joined in August 2025 by Dr. Luis Sandoval-Diaz as a research fellow and later as an academic counselor (transl.: akademischer Rat). Furthermore, our two PhD students, Annika Kubsch and Runxin Zhang, joined us in fall of 2025 to provide additional support. 

As part of our collaborations and projects, we are also pleased to welcome Dr. Martin Velazquez-Rizo and, as our newest member (August 2026), our PhD student Sagnik Datta.

We thank everyone for their cooperation and dedication in establishing the chair and the educational portfolio, as well as for supervising our students in the various projects and lab internships.
